Growing Zanzibar’s

Blue Economy

The Blue Economy refers to sustainable economic activities and development centered on oceans, seas, and coastal areas. It encompasses various sectors, such as fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, shipping, renewable energy, and marine biotechnology. The concept promotes responsible resource management, environmental conservation, and the utilization of marine resources for long-term economic growth while preserving the health and biodiversity of aquatic ecosystems. It seeks to balance economic benefits with environmental protection and social equity in coastal and oceanic regions.

Acknowledging the importance of The Blue Economy, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (RGoZ) has formally incorporated the concept as part of its national development priorities. As such, ZF Devco has taken strides in enshrining the Blue Economy key points within the design of the Passenger and RoRo Terminal.

Connecting Zanzibar

to East Africa

Situated in the culturally rich Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar, the Passenger and RoRo Ferry Terminal plays a pivotal role in linking Zanzibar with the broader East African region. Enhancements to the passenger terminal include a broader selection of routes, increased ferry frequency, and the introduction of new ferry connections to Tanga, Pemba, and Dar es Salaam. Fostering connectivity ushers in a new wave of tourism, trade, connectivity, and cultural exchange - all at reduced time and cost, in modern comfort and style.

Embracing Zanzibar's

Trade Hub Legacy

The rich history of the Zanzibar archipelago is a blend of Arab, Swahili, Indian, English, and Portuguese influences, dating back centuries during which the islands served as a center for trade in the Indian Ocean along East Africa. From the cobblestones of Stone Town to the luxurious, pearly beaches, the island is rated as a top tourist destination in 2023.

The development of the Passenger and RoRo Ferry Terminal aims to modernise the existing infrastructure that hasn’t been developed over the last 100 years. The project will introduce new terminals and enhanced amenities to cater to the increasing number of passengers while connecting the island to East Africa - advancing economic progress.
