ZF Devco Empowers Local Artisans in Development of Zanzibar Ferry Terminal in Malindi

As part of its commitment to inclusive and sustainable development, ZF Devco has proudly engaged local tailors and carpenter, Tumaini Alvares in the production of uniforms and benches for the new Malindi Ferry Terminal in Zanzibar. This initiative highlights ZF Devco’s dedication to community-driven infrastructure that reflects the culture, craftsmanship, and economic vitality of the region.

By sourcing materials and labor locally, the project not only supports small businesses and skilled tradespeople but also ensures that the terminal is a true reflection of Zanzibar’s heritage and identity. Uniforms for terminal staff were designed and stitched by local tailors, while benches were handcrafted by artisans using responsibly sourced wood from the region.

“This approach goes beyond construction—it’s about building local pride and long-term value,” said Jaffer Machano, Director of ZF Devco. “When the community is involved at every level, the result is a space that people feel connected to and take ownership of.”

The Malindi Ferry Terminal is set to become a vital transport hub and a symbol of inclusive development in Zanzibar, made by and for the people who call it home.
