Building RoRo Pontoons at Songoro Shipyards
Aerial photography provides a comprehensive view of the ongoing construction and current state of the future Maruhubi Zanzibar Passenger and RoRo Ferry Terminal’s pontoon bridges being assembled at the Songoro Shipyards facility. This shipyard is tasked with fabricating the RoRo pontoons that will eventually be part of the infrastructure at our Maruhubi site, where the new Zanzibar Ferry Terminal is being developed as part of the relocation project.
Once completed, the pontoon bridge structure will be transported—via tugboat—from the Songoro Shipyards to the Maruhubi site. The steel materials used in the construction are being sourced from China, ensuring strength and durability for long-term marine operations.
This pontoon bridge will serve a dual function: it will act as a floating dock for both RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) ferry operations and cargo handling, playing a key role in the terminal's logistical and maritime capacity.
